Concept
At its most basic level, security is most often used to stop
certain staff accessing a part of the system the business wishes to keep
private, for example, the General Ledger Trial balance or the Call / Investment
accounts.
It may also be required where a strict segregation of duties
is needed for the business. In this
case, receivables management staff may not be entitled to access the borrowing
ledgers and vice versa.
There may also be a case where only authorised staff may
undertake a certain function. An example
may be loan early terminations.
Unauthorised staff can be locked out of that process.
Security does not
have to be implemented.
Setup
Staff Group access to dialogs is limited by one of two ways:
- Restricted by adding staff groups via
button on the dialog in question. If no staff groups are added then access is not restricted to the dialog. If a staff member is not included in the group that has access to that screen, then they will not be able to go into that screen - Restricted via security roles assigned to each
staff group.
The initial setup is completed by creating staff groups and assigning security
permissions.
