Installation Prerequisites

Prerequisites

The following section outlines the third-party applications required to successfully run Argos. 
The below applications are not provided as part of the Argos application and it is the responsibility of the client to purchase/licence, install and manage their supporting applications.

Microsoft Windows Operating System

The operating system must be able to run .NET 4.8 and therefore are the minimum required to run the Argos applications:
  1. Windows 11
  2. Windows Server 2022
Note: 
We do not recommend or support the ‘Home’ versions of these operating systems - the ‘Professional’ or ‘Business’ versions should be used.  
You should ensure all your machines have all the latest windows updates installed and that they are kept up to date.

.NET Framework 
A number of the Argos Utilities are .NET applications and therefore the .NET Framework V4.8 or above must be installed on every machine (including the server) used to run Argos, along with the latest security patches.  
For those using any of the Argos Web Applications, Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6.0 or later is required to run the .NET 4 Framework.

C++Version Redistributables

The C++ Version Redistributables must be installed on each machine (including the server) that is to run any Argos applications or utilities. 
They can be downloaded from:

Microsoft SQL Server

The Argos application uses Microsoft SQL Server to manage and store application data and therefore there must be an SQL Server installation available on the network.  
SQL Server 2017, 2019 and 2022 are all supported versions

SQL Server is not provided as part of the Argos application and it is the responsibility of the client to install and manage their SQL Server.

SQL Server Express   

Microsoft provides a free version of SQL Server called SQL Express which can be used to run the Argos application for smaller installations. However there are limitations on the database file size and memory capacity which may compromise performance for larger clients.  

SQL Express provides a management utility called SQL Server Management Studio Express which assists with server setup and maintenance, so this should also be downloaded.

The latest version of SQL Express can be freely downloaded from the web

Notes:
Argos provides support for the Argos data files on the SQL Server but does not provide support for the setup, security and ongoing database administration and maintenance of SQL Server or SQL Server Express.
Please ensure your IT providers have sufficient SQL Server knowledge to setup and administer the Server correctly as support outside the interaction with the Argos applications may be billable.

Microsoft Word

The Argos application links with Microsoft Word (Office 2007 or greater) to generate the communication documents from within the application and therefore the server and every workstation that is accessing Argos must have Microsoft Word installed.  

PDF Reader 

All documentation provided is in PDF format so users should have a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit installed.
